S&P 500 Dividend Yield - Monthly
Chart Description
Chart Description
This chart shows the dividend yield for the entire S&P 500 index. A dividend is money that a company decides to distribute to shareholders. The dividend yield is the dividend paid out over the previous year as a percent of stock price. Thus, the dividend yield is the actual annual percent return on investment for a shareholder ignoring changes in stock prices. The data in this chart comes from economist Robert Shiller.
